Miniature Horse Rescue

The Guide Horse Foundation Rescues crippled and deformed dwarf horses, providing them with lifetime love and veterinary care.  In some cases, GHF rescue miniature horses are placed as companions for a working Guide Horse.

The Guide Horse Foundation strongly opposes the over breading of miniature horses and supports miniature horse rescue organizations who strive to rescue miniature horses from slaughter.  Every years thousands of unwanted miniature horses are bred while thousands more are abandoned, neglected or sent to the killers to serve the European and Asian meat markets.  Here are some miniature horse rescue charities:

  • USERL - The United State Equine Rescue League is a wonderful charity dedicated to rescuing horses.  They sometimes rescue miniature horses and ponies.

  • Save The Horses - A Charity with a great list of horse rescue organizations.

  • Miniature Horse Rescue Charities - There are many charities that rescue miniature horses and place miniature horses for adoption to good homes.

When the prices for miniature horses drops to their "meat" value, you can find many wonderful pet-quality miniature horses for under $200.

  • United Kingdom Rescue Auctions - This yearly sale at Dartmoor National Park offers dozens of beautiful miniature horses for less than £10.

  • United States Mini horse Auctions - The Equine Protection Network publishes a list of  auctions where you can find miniature horses to rescue, paying only their meat value.  You can also find reasonably-priced mini ponies on the web.

The Guide Horse Foundation encourages the adoption of those miniature horse rescue ponies that are not in-need of ongoing veterinary care. Janet Burleson also uses her personal funds to rescue unwanted, neglected or abused miniatures horses.  If you know of a miniature horse in need of rescue, please let us know at info@guidehorse.org.
